Hi, good peeps! We are having an open and honest conversation about anti-aging in the second half of life… so grab those golden sh*t shovels. I’m going to share some hot takes from my conversation with Dr. Jason Diamond. He shared the tools we need to rejuvenate, refresh, and radiate in the second half of life. Hint…it’s not all about how we look on the outside!
Dr. Diamond is a Board-Certified Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon in Beverly Hills, specializing in surgical & non-surgical facial rejuvenation. Dr. Diamond has developed a long-standing reputation for making his patients look youthful, yet completely natural, as seen on E! Network’s hit reality television show, Dr. 90210. Dr. Diamond is one of the top facial plastic surgeons in the world. He was able to pick up thousands of different techniques to create the Diamond methods that he uses today. He created the Diamond “Insta-Facial” and Diamond Sculpting filler technique to make women look ageless.
We are talking about finding the sweet spot in learning about the aging of the face. If you ever wanted to know more about facial plastic surgery or about almost every facial procedure under the sun….this one’s for you!
Tell-Tale Signs
Many of the tell-tale signs of aging show up in our midlife…and are hard to miss. You start noticing all the fun things about entering midlife. You might look in the mirror one day and notice that the skin under your eyes starts to sag, your nose changes shape, your chin hangs down a little lower and your earlobes start to be a little floppy. Great visual, huh? But don’t worry, there are things we can do to change how we see ourselves in the mirror!
Surgery? Or Not?
There are many different types of procedures to consider…from surgical to non-surgical. Popular treatments that you see in the media might not be right for everyone and there are many options to choose from.
Surgical Options
Facelifts. Facelifts are a popular surgical procedure. They are becoming more popular for younger women because they’re less detectable and you will have less downtime. However, take into consideration this does mean going under the knife.
Non-surgical Options
Kybella. Kybella is a non-surgical injection that helps reduce excess fat beneath the chin….aka the turkey gobbler. Kybella is used for those that are overweight and have excess fat. This is a good option if you are young and have good skin elasticity. However, Dr. Diamond notes that if you are over 45, you will need to also tighten the skin or you will still notice sagging.
Threads. This is an alternative to a facelift. However, don’t expect your results to last long at all.
Diamond Insta Facial. If you go see Dr. Diamond, this is one of his signature non-surgical procedures. It's a combo treatment with lasering to make the skin accept the next components that are coming. They take your blood and spin it in a centrifuge. The next step is laying it on the skin and rolling it with needles. Then some blood is injected into strategic areas to stimulate collagen. This procedure has low downtime and risk.
Diamond Facial Sculpting. This is similar to fillers, however, what makes it different is that Dr. Diamond goes deep down into the bone and not just under the skin.
Want To Go The Surgery Route? Pause and Consider
The great news is that social media has normalized facial procedures and plastic surgery so people don’t feel as self-conscious about it. However, there are still some things you should consider.
Be realistic about your expectations. Some people draw up these images in their minds that a plastic surgeon is going to make them “look like Kim Kardashian.” So keep your expectations in check and be open to the opinions of your doctor. You aren’t there to change your entire appearance. The doctor is there to help you fine-tune what you already have.
Do your homework. Know who it is you will be seeing and what their credentials are. Will you be seeing a nurse, dermatologist, plastic surgeon, or just someone who went to medical school? You want to make sure the person you are going to see knows about facial symmetry and possible complications that could come up. Don’t let this stop you... just make sure who you’re going to is Board Certified and has been trained properly.
Discover the Best Version of You
Do whatever makes you feel best. Don't let judgment stop you. The most important lesson from Dr. Diamond is that “when you look your best, you feel your best.” So, for you, if that means you feel your best when you go to the gym…great! Or if it comes from getting a nose job…that’s great too! It doesn't matter…do what makes you happy and don't let the opinion of others stop you.
How Can I Become the Best “Me”?
Do it for you…not external validation. You don’t need anyone else’s approval or you don’t need to do things just to impress people for events, performances, or job interviews. Work on yourself…for yourself.
Don't let obstacles stop you….come up with something better. Dr. Diamond is a perfect example of this. After his fellowships didn't work out, he was able to turn it around and become the best plastic surgeon. He was able to work with numerous doctors instead of just one. He could of let this stop him, but he didn’t. He figured out another way and it turned out even better.
There was so much good information in this conversation with Dr. Diamond. We dug through many layers of sh*t and found the answers to anti-aging and discovering the best version of you. So, even if plastic surgery or Dr. Diamond’s facial sculpting is or isn’t for you…that’s okay. Do it for you…not for anyone else!
