Midlife Bikini Wax of the Soul

Full Body F*ck Yes with Abbey Gibb

Hi, good peeps. This week, I sat down with Abbey Gibb for a conversation that was full of power, wisdom, and badassery. She’s a two-time TEDx speaker with over a million views, Emmy award-winning former TV journalist & business and entrepreneurial coach that helps entrepreneurs grow their businesses, leadership, and storytelling skills. She helps all women find their “Full Body F*ck Yes’s” in life. She has a very cool Instagram and defies all the rules of how we think we are supposed to act and feel.

She’s modeling what it takes to become even more of yourself every day in her podcast, Full Body F*ck Yes. Hold on to your seats. You're about to get a psychology/business/spiritual life coaching and full-on f*cking “woo woo” upgrade.

Only give a f*ck about the things that truly matter

You're always going to care about something, but when it comes to everyone else’s opinions, like following the Stepford wife playbook... those are the things that don't necessarily matter. But the things you genuinely do care about the matter...those are the things that make you feel something with your full body. That’s part of finding your “f*ck yes.”

Here are some questions to ask yourself...

  • Are you doing something because you think it will make you happy when you get to some sort of finish line? If you’re not happy right now on the journey, you’ll find the destination to be a bit of an anti-climax.

  • Are you giving up your sanity just to prove how much you can achieve? If you’re giving up personal connection, fulfillment, happiness, peace, and even f*cking sleep, you may need to re-evaluate what you actually need to feel good right now.

  • Are you in joy right now where you are in life? In Abbey’s words, “If I'm not in joy right now, that's not success.”

Break up with your old self

Think back to when you were in your 20s and 30s. You likely wanted different things then and acted completely differently than you do now. That's okay. It's not just okay, it's good. It means you are constantly evolving and becoming who you want to be. There's no reason to look back at the former versions of yourself and wish that was something different. All of those years come back with experience and learning new things. Midlife doesn't mean the end of the road. It just means becoming a new version of you.

Here are some good reasons to break up with your old self:

  • Helps you to transform faster so that change doesn’t feel so scary.

  • Clinging to old ideas of what you thought success and happiness meant can rob you of seeing how far you’ve truly come.

  • It’s a lot of fun to give less f*cks. It makes everything a little bit sexier when you liberate yourself from old f*ks that are no longer relevant.

  • Breaking up with your old self helps you clearly see what you want now, in this season, and find the courage to go for it.

You create your own story

You have to create your own narrative. You get to do the things that feel right to you, or work well in your own life, not other people's lives. There will always be judgment from others around you, but at the end of the day, you're all that you have. You have to create your best life based on what you know is good for you.

Here are some good reasons to take control of your story:

  • Narratives for women, especially in midlife, are limiting. We are more than what we provide for others and we don’t stop being sexy or creative when we become empty nesters or grow older.

  • Titles can’t really fit all of who you are. You’re more than a wife, mom, employee, employer, daughter, sister, etc. You get to decide what that looks like. You’re not an Amazon box. You don’t need more labels.

  • In Abbey’s words, “You get to take up more room on the page of your life. You get to write narratives.” So what are you going to create?

I fu*king loved recording this podcast episode with Abbey. My soul feels shiny, clean, and freshly waxed. I’m ready to lose more f*cks, break up with the past, and write my midlife remix narrative. I hope this episode gives you the spark you need to find your full body f*ck yes and go for the things that really matter to you.
